Kenneth Wayne Westerby Sr, 76, of Amarillo passed away January 14, 2023. Memorial viewing of closed casket service will be January 27th , 2023 at Angel Funeral Home in Amarillo from 6-8pm. Graveside service with be on Saturday, January 28th, 2023 at Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum in Amarillo at 10:00 am.
Kenny was born December 26, 1946 at St Anthony’s Hospital in Amarillo, Texas, to Charles and Wilma Westerby. Kenny graduated from Amarillo High School and attended college at Amarillo College where he studied telecommunications. He served our country in the US Army during the Vietnam war. After honorable discharge, he started his own business, A-1 Communications, which enabled him to travel to destinations such as Japan, and where he helped usher in telecommunication technology transitions from 2-way radios, to pagers, car phones, and ultimately cell phones. He sold his business and started Ken’s Texaco which allowed him and life-long best friend, Kenneth “Cotton” Smith, to enjoy one their favorite hobbies and interests, working on automobiles. Kenny loved spending time with his many friends in Amarillo. He also loved hunting, fishing, boating, and camping, especially at Lake Texoma.
Kenny married Ginger on 5/27/1983. One of his greatest enjoyments was traveling with Ginger across the United States, including a roadtrip to Alaska in 2016. Kenny and Ginger enjoyed spending their winters in Yuma, AZ, hanging out with friends.
Kenny is survived by his wife, Ginger Westerby; sons, Ken Westerby Jr and wife Dana of Amarillo and Phillip Westerby and wife Holly of Houston; step son, Jerry Huff of New York; grandkids, Kenzie Davis and husband Zach of Amarillo and Kylie Gower and husband Alex of Amarillo and Addison and Macaiden Westerby of Houston; and great grandchild Carter Davis of Amarillo; brother, Charles Westerby and wife Linda of Amarillo.
