Betty “Sue” (Pope) Gofinch, 70, of Amarillo passed peacefully into the Kingdom of Heaven on May, 4, 2022.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Monday, May 9, 2022 at 11am in the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Sanctuary, 555 E. Hastings Ave in Amarillo with Pastor Michael Carter presiding. Cremation arrangements are in the care of Angel Funeral Home, 2209 S. Arthur in Amarillo.
Sue was born on July 12, 1951 in Amarillo, Texas to Paul Benjamin and Ruth (Colbert) Pope. She was a proud Palo Duro High School graduate. On December 3, 1989, she would exchange vows with Robert “Catfish” Gofinch and together they would build their life together raising the family in Amarillo.
Sue was the quintessential “Jack of all Trades”. She did many things, and each one she did extremely well. She ultimately ended up retiring from Atmos Energy after many years of dedicated service. Following her retirement, she could often be found in the bingo hall hoping to hit the big one of the night.
Sue is preceded in death by her parents Ruth and Paul, and her brother in law David L. Williams. Those left to cherish her memories are her beloved Robert, daughter Crystal Pena and fiancé Jack Gandy, sons Joey Kent and wife Becca, and Tommy Gofinch and wife Diane sister Ruth Jean Williams, and brothers James Pope, Benny Pope and wife Donna, and Dickey Pope and wife Wynette. Sue also leaves a legacy of her grandchildren Jessi Hoffman, Joey Gofinch, Brooklyn Smoot, Chloe Schoen, Jordan Chadick, Brady Taylor, Branson Taylor, Trevor Kent, Caidynce Pena, and Issac Pena; as well as 11 great grandchildren.
