Barbara Calderon de Ruiz

December 4, 1941 — September 7, 2017

Barbara Calderon de Ruiz, 75, of Amarillo, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2017 in Amarillo.

A rosary will be said at 2:00 PM Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Angel Funeral Home.  Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Monday, September 11, 2017 at St. Laurence Catholic Church, 2300 N. Spring, with Rev. Felipe Alvarez as celebrant.  Arrangements are by Angel Funeral Home, 2209 S. Arthur St., Amarillo, Texas 79103.

Barbara was born on December 4, 1941 in Puebla, Mexico to Bernardo Calderon Suarez and Maria de Jesus Camarena.  Barbara was easily described as being classy; dignified, admirable, fancy, and sophisticated.  She had a way with words, always saying what others needed to hear.  Barbara was considered ‘magical’ by her family.  She was a caretaker that was always thinking of others; she was a southern charm.  Barbara was also a fighter.  It could not have been more apparent in her fight against cancer.  She fought a good fight and was not going to let cancer disrespect her.  She was petite, but she was mighty and fierce.  Barbara fought it on her terms and beat it, just not the secondary effects.  She was diagnosed on March 18, 2014.  After 3 ½ years of never giving up hope and fighting cancer, she is now at peace and no longer suffering.  Barbara was a member of St. Laurence Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Javier Munoz Camarena and Manuel Munoz Camarena.

Barbara was survived by three daughters, Barbara Hilliard and husband Kelly, Claudia “Monse” Morales and husband Alfredo, and Georgee Ruiz-Williams, all of Amarillo; one son, Marcos Ruiz of Amarilo; seven grandchildren, Aldair Morales, Maya Morales, Uxmal Morales, Micah Morales, Anaseli Williams, Kelly Hilliard Jr., and Tiffany Cranford and husband John; and two great-grandchildren.
